More About Vinyl Fences
Built For Alberta — The A Class Way
Vinyl fences are one of the smartest long-term investments a Calgary homeowner can make. A Class Fencing installs premium vinyl privacy and picket fences across Calgary, Airdrie, Chestermere, Cochrane, Okotoks, High River, and the foothills. Unlike wood, vinyl never needs sanding, staining, sealing, or repainting — a quick rinse with the garden hose every spring is the entire maintenance routine.
All A Class Fencing vinyl installations use thick-walled vinyl panels with internal aluminum or galvanized steel reinforcement in the bottom rails. That matters in Calgary, where chinook winds can punish thin, hollow vinyl. Our vinyl posts go on concrete-set steel inserts to handle wind load, frost heave, and the occasional acreage gust without flexing.
Vinyl comes in classic white, warm tan, and natural-looking woodgrain finishes that mimic cedar without any of the maintenance. Choose from solid privacy panels, semi-private with lattice tops, ranch rail, or picket styles. Pool homes love vinyl for its clean look and code compliance, and acreage owners love it for the no-touch lifespan.
Vinyl handles Alberta extremes when it's the right grade. Cheap thin-wall vinyl can become brittle at -30°C and crack on hard impact; premium UV-stabilized vinyl with steel-reinforced rails handles Calgary winters without issue. A Class Fencing only installs high-grade vinyl from manufacturers who specifically warrant their product for Canadian climates. We've installed vinyl panels that have weathered a decade of chinooks, hailstorms, and Calgary deep-freeze without colour fade, brittleness, or panel deflection.

Vinyl fence cost in Calgary typically runs $50 to $90 per linear foot installed depending on style (picket runs lower, premium woodgrain privacy at the top), height, and gate count. Up-front cost is higher than cedar or pressure-treated wood, but the math changes over time — wood needs $500-$1,500 of stain and labour every 3-5 years and replacement at 20-30 years, while vinyl needs essentially nothing for 30+ years. Over a 20-year window, vinyl typically costs less than wood once maintenance is factored in.
Maintenance is genuinely close to zero. A rinse with a garden hose once or twice a year removes pollen, road salt, and dust. Tougher stains (algae, scuff marks) come off with mild soap and water. No staining, no sealing, no painting, no warping, no rot. Vinyl panels can be individually replaced if damaged (e.g., a tree falls on one), and most premium vinyl is backed by a transferable lifetime manufacturer warranty against fading, cracking, and peeling.
Every vinyl fence install comes with a workmanship warranty from A Class Fencing in addition to the manufacturer warranty on the material itself. Process: free on-site estimate, written quote within 48 hours, 50% deposit, balance on completion. Vinyl installs typically take 1 to 4 days for residential runs. Common Questions
Vinyl Fences FAQ
Will vinyl crack in -30°C Calgary winters?
+
Not if you buy the right vinyl. Cheap thin-wall vinyl can become brittle in extreme cold and crack on hard impact. The premium UV-stabilized, cold-rated vinyl A Class Fencing installs is specifically warranted for Canadian climates and handles -30°C without issue. We've installed vinyl that's now a decade old in Calgary with no cold-cracking.
Does vinyl fade in the sun?
+
Premium UV-stabilized vinyl is engineered specifically not to fade, yellow, or chalk. It uses titanium-dioxide UV inhibitors throughout the material, not just on the surface. The good stuff carries a transferable lifetime warranty against fading. Cheaper grades will yellow over time — we don't sell those.
Is vinyl actually maintenance-free?
+
Essentially yes. Rinse with a garden hose once or twice a year for pollen and dust. Mild soap and water for tougher stains. No staining, no sealing, no painting, no warping, no rot, no insect damage. The only realistic maintenance items are gate hardware tightening every few years and replacing the occasional panel if something heavy falls on it.
Is vinyl worth the higher up-front cost vs wood?
+
Over 20+ years, usually yes. Wood needs staining every 3-5 years ($500-$1,500 in materials and labour each time) and full replacement at 20-30 years. Vinyl needs essentially nothing for 30+ years. The math typically favours vinyl on a 20-year window, especially for owners who don't want to deal with maintenance.
What styles of vinyl fence do you install?
+
Solid privacy (most popular), semi-private with lattice tops, picket, ranch rail (3 or 4-rail), and pool-code-compliant styles. Colours include classic white, warm tan, almond, and natural-looking woodgrain finishes that mimic cedar without the maintenance.
